The gunman, identified by media as Jared Lee Loughner, on Saturday shot 17 people, killing six of them, including a 9-year old girl and a federal judge, John Roll. The gunman was tackled and arrested.

Giffords (D-Ariz.) remained in critical condition Sunday morning after being shot in the head.

Giffords was outside one of her signature “Congress at your corner” events outside a Safeway in Tucson, the district she represented, when a gunman approached and shot her in the head on Saturday. Giffords staff member, Gabe Zimmerman, 30, organizer of the event, was one of the six people killed in the attack.

Col. David Russell Williams case

Col. David Russell Williams was once among Canada’s military officers who commanded a sprawling air base essential for Canada’s military mission in Afghanistan, he also was was entrusted with flying the Queen, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other dignitaries overseas the pilot of government jets that carried Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other dignitaries overseas as well.

But who, really, is Russell Williams? Andy Coxhead, a retired major and resident of Brighton, was a public affairs officer on the Trenton base when Williams took over the 437 squadron. Coxhead said he came in contact with Williams a couple of times a week in 2004 and 2005. He says Williams was forthright and easy to deal with. “When he was named commander, one of my first reactions was, `Hey, he’s going to do well, people will like him; he’s a nice, easygoing guy,’” said Coxhead. There is photograp which was made in January where he is with Canada’s defence chief and its top general during an inspection of a Canadian aircraft on its way to support relief efforts in earthquake-stricken Haiti. Williams killed his second victim just over a week later.

But now the world knows the other side of clean-cut Colonel David Russell Williams – he was leading a double life as an air force commander and a serial sexual predatorhe, he is a serial lingerie fetishist, kinky burglar and sex murderer. Now everyone who knows Williams have been sickened but also baffled. As neighbour George White puts it: “It’s incredible. I think I would suspect the Pope before I would suspect Russ.”

Colonel David Russell Williams has received the strongest sentence under Canadian law.

Joseph Mumfre, Axeman from New Orleans

There are murders in crime history that still remain unsolved. The case of Joseph Mumfre, Axeman from New Orleans is one of them.

On May 23, 1918, an Italian grocer named Joseph Maggio and his wife were butchered while sleeping in their apartment above the Maggio grocery store. Upon investigation, the police discovered that a panel in the rear door had been chiseled out, providing a way in for the killer. The murder weapon, an axe, was found in the apartment, still coated with the Maggio’s blood. Nothing in the house had been stolen, including jewelry and money that were nearly in plain sight. The only clue that was discovered was a message that had been written in chalk near the victim’s home. It read: “Mrs. Joseph Maggio will sit up tonight. Just write Mrs. Toney”. An ax (propped up in their bath) and a straight razor were found at the scene. The razor belonged to Joseph’s brother, Andrew, who found the bodies with brother Jake. Andrew was arrested but cleared for lack of evidence. Other attacks came two weeks later. Grocer Louis Besumer survived, but his mistress Anna Lowe did not. In March the Axman performed the grisly act of killing a father and his two-year-old daughter (the mother survived). The Maggios were the first of no fewer than twelve victims of a murderer who killed until the autumn of 1919 and stopped as mysteriously as he had started. The killer who earned the sobriquet “Axman of New Orleans” was perhaps the first serial killer since Jack the Ripper who wrote tauntingly about his exploits to the press. Each victim (most were Italian and either grocers or bakers) was brutally attacked in his own residence by an assailant who gained entry by carefully chiseling a panel out of the backdoor. And on each occasion, the murder weapon was left behind for the police to find. This bloody bogeyman wrote to the New Orleans Times-Picayune to directly threaten the city. His missive postmarked “Hell, March 13, 1919” was addressed to “Esteemed Mortal”: “They have never caught me and they never will. They have never seen me for I am invisible, even as the ether that that surrounds your earth. I am not a human being, but a spirit and a demon from the hottest hell. I am what you Orleanians and your foolish police call the Axeman.” Claiming a “close relationship with the Angel of Death”, he continued: “at 12:15 (earthly time) on next Tuesday night, I am going to pass over New Orleans. In my infinite mercy, I am going to make a little proposition to you people. Here it is: I am very fond of jazz music, and I and I swear by all the devils in the nether regions that every person shall be spared in whose home a jazz band is in full swing at the time I have just mentioned. If everyone has a jazz band going, well, then, so much the better for you people.” He went on to write that any “people who do not jazz it on Tuesday night” would “get the axe”.

The Axeman murdered a total of eight people before the killings stopped. There was no evidence to link the only suspect, Joseph Mumfre, to the crimes.

Shooting at the Fort Hood Military Base

According to ABC news US Army officer opened fire Thursday with two handguns at the Fort Hood military base in an attack that left 12 people dead and 31 wounded. Authorities killed the gunman and apprehended two other soldiers in what appears to be the worst mass shooting at a U.S. military base.
There was no immediate word on a motive. The shooting began around 1:30 p.m., said Lt. Gen. Bob Cone at Fort Hood. He said all the casualties took place at the base’s Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening.
“It’s a terrible tragedy. It’s stunning,” Cone said.

Defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Hasan was a mental health professional — an Army psychologist or psychiatrist. Officials say it was not clear what Hasan’s religion was, but investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name or if he may have changed his name and converted to Islam at some point.
A graduation ceremony for soldiers who finished college courses while deployed was going on nearby at the time of the shooting, said Sgt. Rebekah Lampam, a Fort Hood spokeswoman.
Greg Schanepp, U.S. Rep. John Carter’s regional director in Texas, was representing Carter at the graduation, said John Stone, a spokesman for Carter, whose district includes the Army post.
Schanepp was at the ceremony when a soldier who had been shot in the back came running toward him and alerted him of the shooting, Stone said. The soldier told Schanepp not to go in the direction of the shooter, he said.
The base was locked down after the shootings. The wounded were dispersed among hospitals in central Texas, Cone said. Nine were taken to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple. A hospital spokeswoman says all had been shot and are adults. A Fort Hood spokesman said he could not immediately confirm any identities of the injured.
Lisa Pfund of Random Lake, Wis., says her daughter, 19-year-old Amber Bahr, was shot in the stomach but was in stable condition. “We know nothing, just that she was shot in the belly,” Pfund told The Associated Press. She couldn’t provide more details and only spoke with emergency personnel.
“I ask that all of you keep these families and these individuals in your prayers today,” Texas Gov. Rick Perry said.
The shootings on the Texas military base stirred memories of other recent mass shootings in the United States, including 13 dead at a New York immigrant center in March, 10 killed during a gunman’s rampage across Alabama in March and 32 killed in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history at Virginia Tech in 2007.

Sex Offender is Dead

According to AP a convicted sex offender on death row for kidnapping, raping and burying and murdered 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford and buried her alive behind his sister’s trailer alive has died of natural causes Wednesday at a Jacksonville hospital. The 51-year-old had been sentenced to death in 2007.

Because Couey was a convicted sex offender who was not registered with the local police at the time of Jessica’s disappearance, the case became a catalyst for the strengthening of sex offender laws in several states, with Jessica’s father, Mark Lunsford, lobbying for the tougher laws across the country.

“I never dreamed it would happen like this,” Mark Lunsford told reporters. “I never thought I would live long enough to see Couey put to death because of the appeals process. “To me, death is sad, but her death, Jessie’s death, has been redeemed … I’m relieved. I’m glad it’s over with.”

Jessica Was Buried Alive

On Feb. 23, 2005, Jessica was abducted from her bedroom in her grandmother’s home where her and her father were living. Her body was found three weeks later in the backyard of Couey’s half-sister who lived within site of the Lunsford home.

Jessica’s body was placed in plastic garbage bags and her hands were bound with speaker wire. She punched holes in the garbage bag with her fingers, indicating that she was still alive when she was placed in the shallow grave.

Sources said Couey’s death was not unexpected, he had been ill for some time.

Seven Dead in Mobile Home

Reported that seven people were found dead and two critically injured Saturday Aug. 30 at a mobile home park built on the grounds of a historic plantation in southeastern Georgia, police said. (Aug. 30)

Jasmine Fiore

The corpse of the former Playboy model, Jasmine Fiore, has been identified through the serial number of her silicone implants.

A severely mutilated body that was discovered in a bloody suitcase in a dumpster in Buena Park, California, on August 15, 2009, has turned to belong to the former Playboy model Jasmine Fiore, the LA Times reported, it has been identified through the serial number of her silicone implants. Her body showed signs of horrifying violence including removal of her teeth and fingers.

The main suspect for Jasmine Fiore’s murder is her husband, young millionaire Ryan Jenkins whom she married in March 2009. Their relationship is reported to have been troubled in the months after that.In May, the family had a scandalous row as Jenkins was jealous over one of Fiore’s former partners. In June, the millionaire husband was changed with domestic violence after his wife claimed he hit her; the trial had been scheduled for December 2009.

On August 13, 2009, Jenkins and Fiore registered at a hotel in San Diego, CA. The next day Jenkins checked out but Fiore never appeared again. The authorities have declared a USD 25 000 award for information that could help them arrest Jenkins.

Gunman kills 3 at gay club in Tel Aviv

JERUSALEM — Israeli police say a gunman entered a youth club for gay teens in central Tel Aviv on Saturday night and sprayed the interior with automatic rifle fire, killing three people and injuring 11.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said it was “most likely a criminal attack and not a terror attack.” Tel Aviv has been a target for Palestinian militants in the past. He said the gunman burst into the basement of the Tel Aviv Gay and Lesbian Association and opened fire on a support group for gay teenagers.

Police are searching the area for the gunman, who fled the scene, he said. Roadblocks were set up. Rescue services said six of the wounded were badly hurt. “This was a hate crime, a premeditated attack,” witness Yaniv Weisman told Channel 10 TV. He said Cafe Noir, the basement club, was popular with youth. “Those hurt were very young,” he said.

Openly gay Knesset lawmaker Nitzan Horowitz said it was “without a doubt the biggest ever attack on the Israeli gay community, we are all in shock.”

Witnesses told Israeli media that the gunman was dressed all in black, and described the scene as a “bloodbath.”

Vernon Forrest Was Shot to Death in Atlanta

It’s reported that a former two-division champion, the first boxer to defeat Shane Mosley, the 38-year-old Vernon Forrest was shot to death in Atlanta in attempted robbery.

Fulton County medical examiner Michele Stauffenberg confirmed that the case was a homicide and that the autopsy showed Forrest died from “multiple gunshot wounds involving the torso and thigh.” Keyes said a police report on the shooting was not immediately available.

Charles Watson, the boxer’s manager, said police and witnesses told him that Forrest had stopped at a gas station to put air in one of his car tires when a man approached asking for money.

“Somehow, Vernon had his wallet out and the guy snatched his wallet and started running,” Watson said. “Vernon pursued after him. The guy turned the corner and Vernon didn’t see him. He turned around to go back to the car. That’s when he started firing.”

Forrest, a native of Augusta, Ga., who lived in Atlanta, was a member of the 1992 Olympic team along with Oscar De La Hoya. The popular fighter later won welterweight and junior-middleweight titles and compiled a professional record of 41-3 with 29 knockouts.

Longtime publicist Kelly Swanson said Forrest was not married and had one son, Vernon Jr.

This is the third high-profile death of a boxing champion in the last month.

Hall of Famer Alexis Arguello, the mayor of Managua, Nicaragua, was found dead at his home on July 1 in an apparent suicide.

Two weeks ago, popular brawler Arturo Gatti was found dead in a condominium at a resort in Brazil. Gatti’s wife remains the prime suspect in that case.

Boxing Champion Arturo Gatti

According to media reports Brazilian authorities found out that the killer of former boxing champion Arturo Gatti is his wife then accused her Sunday of killing him at a posh seaside tourist resort in Brazil. Gatti, 37, was on his second honeymoon with his wife, Amanda, and their 10-month-old baby when his blood-spattered body was discovered in a seaside resort in Porto de Galinhas.

Police said that 23-year-old Amanda Rodrigues was taken into custody after contradictions in her interrogation and presented a formal accusation against her. Prosecutors will later decide whether she will be charged.

Rodrigues, who denies any involvement in her husband’s death, was the first to find the slain boxer’s body early Saturday inside the vacation apartment they were renting at the Porto de Galinhas resort in northeastern Brazil, police said. The former junior welterweight champion was apparently strangled with the strap of a purse, which was found at the scene with blood stains, said Milena Saraiva, a spokeswoman for the Pernambuco state civil police. She told The Associated Press that the Canadian also sustained a head injury.
